Expat Communities in Hiroshima

In the Hiroshima Prefecture, there are several organizations and clubs that promote international exchange and cooperation. These groups aim to foster understanding, support local communities, and provide platforms for cultural and educational exchanges.


Hiroshima International Plaza (HIP)

Built in 1997 in Higashihiroshima City, Hiroshima International Plaza combines the Hiroshima Prefectural International Cooperation Center and the JICA China International Center. It serves as a hub for international cooperation and contribution in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions. The facility provides technical training for trainees from overseas, Japanese language and culture classes, international training for corporate personnel, and support for NGO activities.

Hiroshima International Center (HIC)

The Hiroshima International Center, managed by the Hiroshima International Plaza, was jointly established by local private companies and government entities to promote international exchange and cooperation. It focuses on international understanding education, multicultural coexistence, and other regional support initiatives. The center also offers multilingual consultation services and Japanese language courses for foreign residents.

Hiroshima Peace Culture Foundation, International Relations and Cooperation Division

This public foundation operates the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and its International Relations and Cooperation Division, which provides various services related to international exchange and cooperation. The division offers consultation, interpretation, and information services for foreigners, as well as Japanese language classes.

Hiroshima Canada Association (HCA)

Founded in July 1988, the Hiroshima Canada Association promotes friendship and goodwill at the citizen level. The association organizes various annual events to deepen ties with Canadian citizens, introduces Canadian culture, collaborates with the Canadian Embassy, and participates in sister-city activities with Montreal. It also hosts home stays and facilitates visits to Canada.

The Hiroshima Filipino Association (HFA)

Founded in 2008, the Hiroshima Filipino Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of Filipinos residing in Hiroshima Prefecture. The association does not receive regular grants, so it organizes various events to raise funds for its activities.
