Shiga Prefecture is located in Honshu Island, in the middle of Japan. Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan, occupies about one-sixth of the prefecture's land area and is surrounded by rich nature. Shiga is an inland prefecture which does not face the sea.
The prefectural capital is Otsu-shi. The 4 neighboring prefectures are Fukui, Gifu, Mie, and Kyoto. There is also a lot of profound history, including historic temples and shrines.
