Patients visiting an emergency room (ER) in Tokyo are assessed by a nurse and categorized into one of three levels of care based on the severity of their condition:
・Primary care – for minor injuries or illnesses treated on an outpatient basis
・Secondary care – for cases requiring hospitalization
・Tertiary care – for life-threatening or critical conditions needing immediate emergency or intensive care
Please note that patients may not be seen in the order they arrive, but rather according to the urgency of their condition. If your case is not urgent, you might be asked to return during regular clinic hours or referred to another medical facility.
