Bath towels are one of those personal items that we use every day. A good way to have an upgraded bath time is by knowing that a soft and fluffy bath towel awaits you for after hitting the shower or having a relaxing bath.

How to wash bath towels and preserve its fluffiness

Wash according to the following three steps:

  1. Use lots of water
  2. Do not use too much fabric softener
  3. Put a single towel in one laundry net

1. Set the washing machine water quantity higher

A lot of water is needed to wash bath towels to retain their fluffiness. Therefore, following the automated setting on the water volume will not be able to keep up with the bath towels’ water absorbing capacity, resulting in insufficient water quantity during the washing process. To prevent this, set the water volume manually to a higher level.

2. Avoid excessive use of fabric softener

Excessive use of fabric softener is not recommended. Too much use of fabric softeners causes the towel to loss its water absorbent properties. It can also make stain removal more difficult. Hence, it is best to avoid using fabric softener on a daily basis.

When washing with laundry detergent alone, it is suggested to use detergent derived from natural oils and fats or detergents for delicate clothes and fabrics. Detergents made from natural oils and fats will wash away the dirt while replenishing the oil content of the towel fabric, preserving its fluffy condition.

3. Fill each laundry net with a single towel

It is recommended that bath towels are to be washed in a laundry net. Using a net obviates the bath towels and clothes from getting entangled of which productively prevents the damage of the towel piles caused by friction.

If multiple bath towels are placed in a single net, the fabrics will entangle eventually damaging the pile of the bath towels and making them stiff. Therefore, be sure to put them in the net one by one.

Nevertheless, no matter how meticulous you are in caring for your bath towels, pile loss on bath towels is something inevitable due to wear and tear. When this situation occurs, make sure to cut off the damaged pile as if left unattended, other piles will fall out concurrently.

Use a dryer to fluff them up

Finally, we will be guiding you how to dry bath towels and make them fluffy. The following two methods are recommended for drying.

A: Shake well when drying and avoid direct sunlight

B: Use a dryer for fluffier results

A: Shake well and avoid direct sunlight when drying

When drying bath towels, shake them well before drying them out. Shaking the bath towel well will allow air to enter the fabric and make the pile stand up more easily. This is a crucial step in making towels fluffy.

Direct sunlight is best avoided, as the ultraviolet rays can damage the fibers. It is also advisable to dry the towels in the shade, as moisture may excessively evaporate and can cause stiffness. Therefore, drying the towels for a long time is also not prudent. Take them in as soon as they are dry.

Piece-of-advice

When drying towels, pat it dry about 20 times. If the pile is not well shaken, it will be crushed, and the fibers will be intertwined affecting water absorbency. Shaking the pile will make it stand up allowing air to enter the pile, retaining the towels fluffiness.

B: Using a dryer to keep towels fluffy

Using a dryer is another way to keep bath towels fluffy. This method is also effective for bath towels that have been used for many years. When the dryer is running, it produces sufficient warm air and the machine motion is constant allowing the towels to be tumbled dry. Using the dryer makes it simpler as there is no need to shake the towels or worry about direct sunlight.

If you still prefer the sterilizing effect of the sun, you can hang the towels outside and take them in while they are still slightly damp and use the dryer machine function to finally dry them. By doing so, you can get the benefits of having your towels dried outside and still getting a high-quality fluffy finish.

Larger drums are recommended as this gives wider space for the bath towels to tumble around, making the towel piles stand up more easily and absorb more water.
