Outlet Shopping Malls and Factory Outlets in and Around Tokyo

Outlet Shopping Malls are a common excursion for many Tokyoites. Tired of crammed department stores and the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, many love going out to an outlet mall, often surrounded by greenery, water features, and ample parking.

Outlet malls are often a far more relaxed and pleasant shopping experience - in addition to prices being marked down significantly compared to sky-high Tokyo price tags.

In this article, we will share with you our favorite choices vying to be the top Tokyo outlet mall - but you may have to check each and every one, just to make sure! We will not tell.

Tokyo Area

Mitsui Outlet Park Tama Minami Osawa

Mitsui Outlet Park is one of the bigger outlet mall groups, and the version in Tama is no exception. Hachioji is one of the northernmost areas still considered Tokyo, and space is a much cheaper commodity there than closer to the center. Most notably, this  park includes the Sanrio Puroland complex, a small indoor amusement park themed entirely around Hello Kitty and her famous friends. At less than 40 minutes from Shinjuku by Keio Line Limited Express, this is a great day-trip option for those without a car.

Minami Machida Grandberry Park

Grandberry Park is a great place for the whole family! Designed with parents in mind, there are lots of entertainment options, kids stores, playrooms, and an entire park dedicated to making sure kids are enjoying themselves. They also have sports grounds, making it an appealing place for many in the area to show their skills on the field. Even more exciting—starting in December 2020, this will also be the home of the Snoopy museum! Come look at the only place in Tokyo where you can see memorabilia, learn fun facts, and spend a few hours celebrating this famous pooch with a dedicated Japanese fanbase.

These also have foreign currency exchange machines all over, making it easy to change your yen into dollars without actually having to go to a foreign currency exchange window.

While stores come and go, of course, this beautiful spot also boasts a gorgeous view of Mt Fuji on a clear day, easily visible from the rooftop terraces. The food court at this mall is also legendary, boasting an array of flavors all collected in one easy place. Another in the giant Mitsui Outlet family, there are also direct buses from Kisarazu to Haneda, though they usually take closer to half an hour.
