The Japanese government introduced a new residency status called "Specified visa: Designated activities (Digital Nomad, Spouse or Child of Digital Nomad)" for digital nomads from overseas, amended relevant regulations, and commenced operation in April 2024.
The target individuals are digital nomads who travel around the world while working remotely. The accompanying spouse or child who stays in Japan for no more than six months and engages in international remote work.
They can stay and work for up to six months, and the requirements include holding nationality of the target country or region, earning an annual income of over 10 million yen, and subscribing to private medical insurance, etc. Approximately 50 countries and regions are eligible.
